100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation – February 10 – 13, 2011
One hundred years ago, aviation pioneers proved airplane’s capabilities for shipboard operations in San Diego, CA. Accomplishments such as the first successful hydroaeroplane flight by Glenn H. Curtiss in San Diego bay showed the world that aviation could go to sea. With the rich history that the “Birthplace of Naval Aviation” holds, it is only fitting we kick-off the year-long celebration commemorating Naval Aviation’s 100th year in San Diego, CA.The Centennial of Naval Aviation is a historic milestone. From its humble beginning in 1911, the Navy’s flight program has grown to become a guardian of freedom for America and its allies. It has succeeded because of the hard work and dedication of men and women who are willing to continually challenge themselves and, if necessary, sacrifice their lives for their country.
