AFCEA San Diego is co-sponsoring the 30th
Annual C4ISR Symposium
April 22 – 24, 2008.
The San Diego Chapter has over 1000 members, of
which over 300 are associate members through a
corporate
sponsor representing the heart of high
technology in one of the country's most lucrative
markets. Our mission is to improve government and
industry preparedness in the field of C4ISR through
cooperation, association, and the encouragement of
education in related technical fields.
Our annual symposium has become one of the most
informative, broad-based technical exchange forums
of its scale. It flows naturally from the annual
WEST trade show occurring in San Diego each winter.
This year’s symposium is focused specifically on
the interests of our local community and
opportunities within our reach. The 2008 C4ISR
Symposium will feature three days of forward-looking
briefings, panel discussions, and product displays
from three San Diego-based elements of Team Space
and Naval Warfare Systems Command; each of which is
charged with developing, procuring, and delivering
crucial building blocks that are pivotal to
completion of the Global Information Grid (GIG).
Industry will be displaying their wares in
exhibits as well as sponsoring the event. Our
government co-sponsors for this event will be JPEO
JTRS, PEO C4I, and SPAWAR Systems Center San Diego.
We will hold the Buck Bragunier Spring Classic Golf
Tournament on Monday, April 21, 2008 in association
with the Symposium. The tournament will be held at
the Sea ‘N Air Golf Course at Naval Air Station
North Island.
On Tuesday, April 22, the Joint Program Executive
Office Joint Tactical Radio System (JPEO JTRS) will
co-host the first day of the symposium. The kick off
will feature a dialogue with JPEO JTRS Mr. Dennis
Bauman and Mr. Irwin Jacobs, recognized by many as
the Father of the San Diego Telecommunications
Industry.
On Wednesday, April 23, the multi-disciplinary Space
and Naval Warfare Systems Center, San Diego will
co-host the day. The day will be directed by
Commanding Officer Captain Mark Kohlheim, Technical
Director Carmela Keeney, and key Program Managers.
They will discuss examples of their diverse roles,
ranging from fielding and upgrading technology and
supporting elements of the GIG to conceiving,
developing, testing, and conducting sophisticated
Science and Technology demonstrations of crucial
importance and interest to a broad spectrum of
defense and other national agencies.
Thursday, April 24 will be co-hosted by the Program
Executive Office (PEO) C4I. Mr. Chris Miller’s
Program Managers, key supporting staff members, and
industry partners join to discuss major programs
within the PEO. The program will follow the PEO C4I
Masterplan layout, with technical portfolio
discussions on Applications, Communications,
Networks, and platform integration with a special
emphasis on Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA)
In keeping with our charter, all three days will
concentrate on the technical aspects of the various
programs. This allows us to collaborate with the
National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) San
Diego as they conduct their September Naval NETWAR
FORCEnet Enterprise (NNFE) and Industry Conference
where they will discuss the programmatics associated
with many of these programs.
QUALCOMM Stadium, the home of the San Diego
Chargers, is this year’s venue. This venue offers
great flexibility for exhibitors and event planners.
We will host several networking events, allowing
government and industry to exchange information. The
goal of this exchange is to give industry the
opportunity to invest in the correct technology to
be competitive and to bring the government the
best-value team for product development. The event
also allows the government to learn what industry
has to offer, encouraging the best solution for
warfighter needs, wants, and expectations.
All proceeds benefit the AFCEA San Diego Educational
Foundation for the purpose of public grants and
scholarships for aspiring students who will be our
future engineers and scientists.
