Chapter Volunteers Update School Lab in Time for
School to Resume
Students at Chula Vista’s Lauderbach Elementary
School returned to class on Monday October 8th to find their
computer lab open and equipped with newly refurbished computers and flat
screens. The Chapter’s Technology Needed in Schools (TNS) committee,
working with our partners from the San Diego Futures Foundation (SDFF)
met on Saturday October 6th to install the new machines in
the lab. The year-round school had been on intersession and a special
effort was made to install the computers prior to class resumption.

According to Principal Charlene Sapien, the school
had been forced to make the choice between distributing limited and
older computers to individual classrooms, forgoing the lab. However,
with the addition of the thirty-four Windows machine installed by the
TNS crew, the lab is now open for more access by individual
students as well as use by entire classes.
TNS volunteers come from a cross section of the
chapter’s membership and even friends of members who have become a
regular part of the Saturday TNS crew. TNS installations occur
approximately every six weeks on Saturday mornings.
